Gas Saving Tips

1. Engine Tune Up
Keep your engine well-tune;  it will work more efficiently which means that it will burn less gas.

2.
Air Filters
Check and replace air filters regularly.  A clean filter will allow the engine to take in more air to mix with the gasoline and maximize power and fuel use.

3. Oil
Use the recommended grade of motor oil and change it every 3 or 4 thousand miles. Be certain that you use the oil that the car's manufacturer recommends.

4. Tire Inflation
Keep tires properly inflated to the recommended PSI listed on them.  Check tire inflation once a week and especially when the seasons change - air temperature impacts tire pressure.

5. Speed
Driving fast increases fuel consumption especially speeds above 60 mph. It takes more energy to drive at 60 MPH then at 55 MPH.  It will take you only 5 ½ minutes more to drive 60 miles at 55 MPH than at 60 MPH.

6. Acceleration and Braking
Driving gently will really help you save on fuel consumption. Always avoid rapid acceleration and excessive braking. Do all starting and stopping gradually instead of abruptly.

7. Overdrive
Use overdrive as much as possible. This allows your engine to run at lower RPM for any given speed which of course will reduce fuel consumption.

8. Cruise Control
Use Cruise Control. This will help to save gas by maintaining a constant speed.  Changing speed increases fuel consumption.

9. Idling
Avoid idling.  Cars with larger engines will typically waste more gas than cars with smaller engines.

10. Weight
Get all of the junk and miscellaneous things out of your car and your trunk.  The heavier your car the more gas it burns.  Even small things that may weight only a pound or two can add up over time.

11. Windows Up or Down
Keep your windows up when driving over 45 miles per hour.  You get less drag and get a better average PMG with windows up even with running the A/C.  Driving under 45 miles per hour can be with the windows down and the A/C off.

 12. Roof Racks
Take off those ski racks, bike racks, etc.  They lower your gas mileage since they create a lot of wind resistance especially over 60 MPH.
